3/25 Posts: Horses Christmas

So the next town over, Buena Vista, used to have a college named Southern Seminary. It was an women's college until I was in high school, and then it became Southern Virginia College (now Southern Virginia University). A lot of the girls who went to Southern Sem had a horse or two, they had a huge barn and riding was a big part of the school. I mention this because apparently they used to have a tradition called Horses Christmas, where they'd dress up their horses and show them off to the community. A local lady, who actually was my horseback riding instructor (story for some other day), decided she'd like to bring it back to the community.

The so-called Horses Christmas was in Glen Maury Park, and there was an entire elementary school there, so Charlie and I couldn't get too close to the "ring," but we could catch the riders before they entered the ring. First, local middle schoolers performed traditional holidays songs, performed and such. They decorated the tree in the middle with carrots, apples, and other treats for the horses to enjoy after the trotted around the ring in front of the kids.
So the kids dressed up, and dressed up the horses themselves. I thought it was sweet was the kids did...Snowmen....
At first, he just wasn't sure what to think of it all....
Local riders...
He was so happy to see his girlfriend Addie there. It was so funny all the younger kids just kept pointing...
See?

Santa arrived last. The kids were so excited. This was Charlie's first time seeing Santa, but he didn't seem to notice, really.
I just wanted to show you the organizer's dog... even he was all dressed up!

I wish they would have allowed the kids to interact with the horses, Charlie would have loved that !
